The Weekly Wombat - Week 17

With only several weeks left, we're seeing major injuries pile up. Countless times we've seen a team look good, then like dogshit, all due to a major injury. Let's rank the top 10 worst ones of the season:

10. Tyler Skaggs - Ham Sandwiches

Thanks, Bran.

9. Mitch Haniger - Ham Sandwiches

Sure he was having some issues with batting average, but the man lost a nut for christ sake. Show some compassion.

8. Tommy La Stella - Sittin' Ducks

La Stella was looking like Daniel Murphy when he broke out, and now likely done for the fantasy year. Fun fact: Zach got La Stella in exchange for Frankie Montas. He then got Montas back in the Blake Snell deal...and now La Stella and Montas are done-zo. and Snell! Fun!

7. Blake Snell - Ham Sandwiches

Snell's injury in theory is only 4-5 weeks, but he's ranked this high on the list due to WHEN that injury happened. Hammies were looking solid, with Snell and Bauer as rotation anchors. Now he's likely out until our World Series. Just gotta fluke my way into that, then I'm set.

6. Joey Gallo - Kingslayers

For a brief moment, Gallo was on track to make me look like an idiot. I openly laughed at Jon's pick of Gallo, really more because it's clear he loved my 2018 team. Anyway, that came tumbling down with a slump and then two injuries. Now he may or may not be back for our playoffs. DUMB PICK JON.

5. Corey Kluber - Pez Sox

While Kluber didn't look like his standard self, it was still brutal for the Pez to lose their ace. It led to needing to trade for a different ace, in James Paxton. Who himself, has also not looked like his standard self. DUMB MOVE NICK.

4. Tyler Glasnow - Ham Sandwiches

Relief eligible aces don't grow on trees. Glasnow was looking like THE pick of the 2019 drafts before he went down. In a certainly desperate move, I traded Glasnow and picks galore for Trevor Bauer. DUMB MOVE ME.

3. Miguel Andujar - Moonschatz

While the Moonschatz have been fine without him, let's not understate how hard it is to basically get nothing out of a keeper spot. Andujar could have been plugged in at DH on Matt's team, and looked great in his sophomore season. Instead, 0 at bats on the year. Oof.

2. Carlos Carrasco - Kev Bombs

While Kev has some major pieces that he can plug in his rotation instead of Carrasco, this one is still brutal. Carrasco is a dominant pitcher, and Kev needs all the help he can get right now to get back in that last wild card spot.

1. Giancarlo Stanton - Kingslayers

Stanton isn't far removed from an MVP year, and now Jon will have gotten 31 AB's from him on the year most likely, AND had to waste a roster spot on him.

Apologies to: Mike Clevinger, Jordan Hicks, Andrew McCutchen, Jesus Luzardo, Corey Knebel, Luke Weaver, etc

Dong of the Week:

Cold Notes

Asher Wojciechowski RP | BAL - Added

Josh James SP | HOU - Dropped

Not much to write about post trade deadline, but the Cold Notes quickly pounced on Wojo after Dean dropped him. I don't really think he's good or anything, but...yay for fun Orioles?

Weekly MVP's:

The Pez get their first weekly MVP of the year, with Cruz putting up a monstrous 7 bombs on the week. Goldy in the NL had his own breakout, showing he's still capable of being an above average power hitter at his age.

Dan's Culture Recommendation of the Week:

Games of the Week:

AWL: Sittin' Ducks @ Moonschatz

Matt (#FuckMatt) improved to an impressive 14-3, and with the right combination of things happening this week, could lock up the division title. The Ducks on the other hand hold a half game lead on the last playoff spot, so this week is much needed. That half game is over myself, so #FuckMatt AND #FuckZach.

NWL: Fuzzy Kiwis @ Killer Pandas

NWL division leaders face off this week, both on long winning streaks. The Kiwis just did a clean sweep on the league, winning 8 in a row. Meanwhile, the Pandas have won 6 in a row - their last loss being vs the Kiwis. Something's gotta give.
