A(pri)L Busts

The wackiest month of both fantasy and real baseball is over!

It's May 1st which means all the baseball players with terrible stats might magically hit and pitch better now that it's a new month. But most likely, those players just suck, and you drafted busts.

While you never really know whom a bust is going to be until the season is nearing its end... sometimes you have a good idea in April. Without further ado, the top 5 AL busts in April.

(Players who have not performed due to injury (i.e. Upton/Olson) or inactivity (ie. Keuchel/Kimbrel) are not considered busts because they have not played enough or at all to warrant consideration)

#5 J.A. Happ - Round 3, Pick #22 (MOONSCHATZ)

When you have 1,000 picks in the draft, you're bound to run into some busts (Trust me, I know.) J.A. Happ was dreadful through his first 3 starts before righting the ship recently in his last two, but even though he has given up just 2 earned runs in his last 14 innings his strikeouts are down significantly from just a year ago... and that goes without mentioning that any 36-year-old pitching in Yankee stadium on a regular basis makes for a dicey proposition. Ok so I just mentioned it. Happ may still have a good 2019 campaign in him yet, but when you're taken in the 3rd round you expect fewer red flags then the one's he has shown through the league’s first month.

#4 Mallex Smith - Round 5, Pick #34 (PEZ SOX)

Recently demoted to AAA, Mallex has been a disaster with the bat. His speed has held up its end of the bargain, resulting in 8 April stolen bases, but as the adage goes, you can't steal first base. It would appear the league has its new Rajai Davis. Let's get #BenchSteals trending on twitter!

#3 Rougned Odor - Round 3, Pick #19 Overall (SITTIN' DUCKS)

The face of the Baseball Furies and their losing ways, Rougned Odor was something of a surprise pick by GM Zach in his first year back in the league. Instead of making us all laugh by blowing up as soon as Mike was gone... Odor instead became the man he was a born to be. A stinky POS. Fortunately due to the emergence of Tim Beckham, GM Zach hasn’t been forced to deploy Odor in the field much. If the second baseman doesn't start hitting soon, an odor may be coming to a free agency near you.

#2 Jose LeClerc - Round 5, Pick #36 (KEV BOMBS)

Relied on heavily by the Kingslayers in 2018, I was devastated when Kevin drafted him ahead of me. Instead of letting things be, I traded my old friends DJ LeMaiheu and Brad Boxberger for him and LeClerc responded by completely getting trashed every time he pitched. He has since been shipped off to the Cold Notes for twenty five cents on the dollar.... and immediately after he was demoted from the closer role. Another reminder it's not 2018 anymore and all closers are the devil.

#1 Jurickson Profar - Round 3, Pick #24 (KINGSLAYERS)

How bad have things gotten for the 2018 AWL World Series MVP? Downright dreadful. At the time of posting, Jurickson Profar is batting .165 with a .223 OBP in 103 at bats. I think I'm going to be sick. Not only has he lost his starting job as the Kingslayers shortstop, he may be losing his job as the Oakland Athletic second baseman soon as well. I've gone as far as to add the guy in AAA who might be replacing him soon.... I'm not going to lie.... This one hurts.
