Breaking Down the Breakdown (AWL)

Six games into the American Wombat League 2018 season... let's see what the breakdown is telling us.... ♪ ♫ Cause there's beauty in... the breakdown ♫ ♪

Baseball Furies

ACTUAL RECORD: 2-4-0 BREAKDOWN: 8-34

The Baseball Furies, the unlovable losers of the Wombat Baseball League, are an abysmal 8-34 in the breakdown. They are very fortunate to be tied for 2nd place in the AWL East with the Cold Notes, and unless they pay their league fee soon, are destined to see the losses continue to pile up. Unable to make trades or pick ups due to GM Mike Ellis' inability to pay for the league, 2018 could be the end of an era and the Franchise.

Cold Notes

ACTUAL RECORD: 2-4-0 BREAKDOWN: 17-23-2

While not .500 in the Breakdown, the Cold Notes true record of 2-4 is reflective of what they deserve to be at this point in the season. Despite being 1-5 against the Ham Sandwiches in breakdown, they are 1-0 against them on the season. Despite being 4-2 against the Baseball Fureis in breakdown, they are 0-1 against them on the season. Despite all the volatility in the statistics, it will be hard for them to miss the playoffs this year in a weak AWL East.

Ham Sandwiches

ACTUAL RECORD: 4-2-0 BREAKDOWN: 29-13-0

The surprise winner of the 2017 World Series has continued the smoke & mirror show in 2018. Okay, to be honest, the team Dan has now is probably better then the one he ended 2017 with, and the 4-2 start reflects that. Despite having a better breakdown then the division leading Kev Bombs, the Ham Sandwiches do not have the best breakdown in the division. That honor belongs to the woefully unlucky Kingslayers who the Ham Sandwiches have beaten in their only meeting thus far. Lucky son of a...

Kev Bombs

ACTUAL RECORD: 5-1-0 BREAKDOWN: 20-21-1

While GM's Dan & Jon were busy trying to destroy each other, a strange thing happened, the Kev Bombs emerged as a true threat to their decade of division dominance. With two World Series titles in the last 4 years, the Kev Bombs are emerging yet again as the real danger in the AWL West, and their true record of 5-1-0 reflects that. Is it for real though? With a just under .500 record of 20-21-1 the Kev Bombs are verrrrrryyy fortunate to be 5-1. Will they take advantage of their lucky start or fall by the wayside, only time will tell....

Kingslayers

ACTUAL RECORD: 3-3-0 BREAKDOWN: 31-11-0

Look, I'm just going to call it like I see it, I am so f'n unlucky. Despite having the best breakdown in the division and 2nd best in the entire league, the Kingslayers are chasing two teams to get to the top. It's so frustrating because it happens every year in the AWL.... but thats fantasy life, right? There's not really much to say except I'm coming for you Dan & Kev, bad luck and statistical anomalies be damned!

Megalomaniacs

ACTUAL RECORD: 6-0-0 BREAKDOWN: 35-6-1

The best team in the history of WLB is the best team once again, sporting a 6-0 record with a breakdown of 35-6-1 to back it up. No statistical outliers or luck in play here, everything GM Dean and his players have done so far is deserved and earned... which should be a scary thought to all those who wrote off his dominance after falling short of winning the title in the odd year of 2017. Could this be the beginning of a new streak of dominance?

Moon Schatz

ACTUAL RECORD: 2-4-0 BREAKDOWN: 17-24-1

With a similar breakdown to the Cold Notes, the Moon Schatz have an identical record of 2-4. The Moon Schatz are playing in a loaded AWL West, which stacks the deck against them from the get go. While their team is certainly a threat, they have a lot working against them if they want to emerge as a playoff team at the end of the year. With a breakdown better then the Cold Notes, Pez Sox, and Baseball Furies... the Moon Schatz best hope is that the Slayers, Hams, and Bombs regress.

Pez Sox

ACTUAL RECORD: 0-6-0 BREAKDOWN: 8-33-1

Lastly, the Pez Sox are off to a dreadful start after their run last year that ended with a World Series loss. Unfortunately, there is not much in the numbers that would forecast a return to relevance in 2018, and GM Nick seems to agree after shipping out Buxton/Osuna/Gray to the Kev Bombs for a 2nd round pick and a future keeper in Rafael Devers. The 2018 season could be a long one for the Pez Sox.

IN SUMMARY: Dean, NIck, Dan, Brandon & Matt have the actual records they're supposed to. Kevin and Mike have been fortunate to have their records. Jon (me) has been the unluckiest team in the league. Great. Glad we did this.
