Mid Year AL Draft Recap

We’re almost to the half way point of the season already, so let’s do a quick draft recap. I’m doing the AL, pressure Jon to do an NL one since he’s got nothing better to do in that league now (thanks for Kenley!). Full results here.

Round 1

Best Pick: Carlos Carrasco – Kingslayers

Worst Pick: Todd Frazier – Kingslayers

Jon had about the entire first round, and did pretty well for himself – he managed to get Jean Segura after not long, even though Mike actually took him #2 overall, and made a good call on guys like Danny Duffy and Justin Upton. Carrasco has been his most consistent player from the first round though, pitching excellent other than a few bad starts here and there. Todd Frazier on the other hand has been awful – he’s shown a little signs of life recently but he’s still only hitting .194 and missed a ton of time from various injuries.

Round 2

Best Pick: David Price? – Pez Sox

Worst Pick: Everyone else

What an ugly round. Chapman was perfectly fine, but got hurt. Quintana has been terrible. Diaz has been so-so, even losing his job briefly. Porcello has an ERA over 4. Lucroy has been a disaster. Felix terrible, and hurt. And Longo has been mediocre to good. So the best pick might be David Price, who never threw a pitch for the Pez Sox. He did manage to haul in Cody Allen for them though, and despite all the time missed, the Pez Sox won without him. He’s the best by default.

Round 3

Best Pick: Dallas Kuechel – Baseball Furies

Worst Pick: Kevin Gausman – Ham Sandwiches

I fucking hate being a homer.

Round 4

Best Pick: Jonathan Schoop – Ham Sandwiches

Worst Pick: Aaron Sanchez – Cold Notes

Nice. I traded the best pick for the worst pick!

Round 5

Best Pick: Alex Colome – Megalomaniacs

Worst Pick: Dustin Pedroia – Cosmos

Colome has been really solid this year, and his numbers are just a shade better than Cody Allen, picked a few spots ahead of him. Pedroia meanwhile hasn’t really produced much this year other than a good average.

Round 6

Best Pick: Lance McCullers – Kingslayers

Worst Pick: Sam Dyson – Megalomaniacs

Sam Dyson, oof. He may end up as the worst pick of the entire draft, being a complete disaster for the Megas.

Round 7

Best Pick: Miguel Sano – Cosmos

Worst Pick: Garrett Richards – Ham Sandwiches

Sano is putting up numbers like he was projected to last year, instead of being a shit sandwich. Richards meanwhile pitched in just one game all year before being shut down until August.

Round 8

Best Pick: Elvis Andrus – Pez Sox

Worst Pick: Greg Bird – Ham Sandwiches

Elvis Andrus is currently the #1 rated short stop on the year in fantasy, according to CBS. I don’t know how this happened.

Round 9

Best Pick: Delin Betances – Pez Sox

Worst Pick: Brad Miller – Kingslayers

Betances gets the nod over Brandon Kintzler here, as he’s got double the K’s and an ERA of .49 (!). On the worst side, I gave it to Brad Miller over Carlos Rodon, as at least Rodon hasn’t actually hurt my team, other than the roster spot.

Round 10

Best Pick: Michael Pineda – Kev Bombs

Worst Pick: Marcus Semien – Cold Notes

Round 11

Best Pick: Kendrys Morales – Megalomaniacs

Worst Pick: Drew Smyly – Cosmos

Round 12

Best Pick: Ryon Healy – Kev Bombs

Worst Pick: Rajai Davis – Cold Notes

Round 13

Best Pick: Matt Holliday – Megalomaniacs

Worst Pick: Jorge Soler – Pez Sox

Round 14

Best Pick: Ervin Santana – Megalomaniacs

Worst Pick: Colin McHugh – Pez Sox

No big deal, just the Megas taking a Cy Young contender in round 14. Move along, nothing to see here other than some Mega Magic.

Round 15

Best Pick: Aaron Judge – Ham Sandwiches

Worst Pick: C.J. Cron – Cosmos

You may have heard rumors I was trying to trade Aaron Judge back in week 1 and 2, but believe nothing of the sort. I always knew he’d hit 50 plus bombs. Always.

Round 16

Best Pick: No one

Worst Pick: Everyone

Steven Wright, Joe Musgrove, Jharel Cotton, Andrew Triggs, Chris Tillman, Tyler Naquin, Alex Gordon, and Daniel Norris. Puke.

Round 17

Best Pick: Mike Moustakas – Baseball Furies

Worst Pick: Jurickson Profar – Cold Notes

Really close between E-Rod and Moustakas here, but with E-Rod now shelved for a month or more, I’ll give him the nod here.

Round 18

Best Pick: Matt Bush – Ham Sandwiches

Worst Pick: Brett Lawrie – Cosmos

Round 19

Best Pick: Alex Cobb – Cold Notes

Worst Pick: BJ Upton – Baseball Furies

Round 20 and on:

Notable picks were Kevin Pillar in round 22 to the Cold Notes, Joey Gallo also in round 22, to the Pez Sox, and Luis Severino in the final round, to the Cosmos.
