The Ten Year Marathon

Now that we have 10 years of wombat baseball in the books, it's a good time to take a look back at what's been accomplished during the part of fantasy baseball we all get to participate in: the regular season. What follows is a list of the best teams in Wombat League Baseball regular season history. Since not every GM and Franchise has played the same amount of games, the list is ordered by highest winning percentage to lowest. Franchises that changed names have been condensed into their most recent incarnation. Franchises that previously belonged to different owners are not attributed with the previous regime’s win-loss-draw records. Everything listed below happened under the watch of that team's GM. Without further ado...

  1. .693 153-67-2 Megalomaniacs

  2. .599 133-89-0 Killer Pandas

  3. .585 130-92-0 Crab Cakes

  4. .565 26-20-0 Power Bolts

  5. .563 124-96-2 Time Consumers

  6. .554 122-98-2 Two Starts

  7. .545 120-100-2 Ham Sandwiches

  8. .522 114-104-4 Kingslayers

  9. .515 114-107-1 Cold Notes

  10. .500 111-111-0 Pez Sox

Reactions:

1-5: While not a surprise, it's a another testament to their overall decade of dominance that the franchise with the most World championships, the Megalomaniacs, is also the franchise with the most regular season wins. The Killer Pandas and Crab Cakes round out the top 3, with the Power Bolts making a somewhat surprising appearance at #4 with their 2 seasons of strong play. The final team in the top 5 is the Time Consumers, whose regular season success has been overshadowed by their close, and often heartbreaking, playoff losses. Regardless, this ranking is yet another feather in GM Deanerock’s cap.

6-10: The Two Starts barely missed out on the top 5 and have a great chance breaking into it next year. The Ham Sandwiches, Kingslayers, and Cold Notes are bunched together after that, with the Pez Sox closing out the top ten with their very cool .500 record (no sarcasm, I genuinely think it's cool.) Unfortunately for the Pez Sox, they are the only team in the regular season top ten that has not won a World Series.

11-15: Onto the bottom ten teams in regular season history, or as I like to call them, the losers! In two seasons the Sitting Ducks barely missed .500 with there 22-23-1 overall record. Following them is the Kev Bombs and Kaiden’s Krew. Both teams had slow starts once they debuted in the WLB, but have been pushing that record in the right direction in recent years. The Tommy Johns and Han Solo Shots finish at #14 and #15 respectively, which feels about right given their penchant for alternating really good seasons with really bad ones.

16-19: The Cosmos and Schatzy Turtles are #16 and #17, but given the amount of games played, one big season could shoot them up the list in a hurry. The same can't be said for the Legendary Mofos and Iraqi Killas, who are not only no longer in the league, but would be facing a daunting task even if they were. While GM Carl certainly had his moments, including an AWL World Series appearance in his inaugural year, he never had a winning record in WLB regular season history.

20: Finally, the 20th team on this list is so famously bad even their own GM makes jokes about it. I'm not quite sure how the Baseball Furies have managed this level of ineptitude, but it is *almost* as impressive as the Megalomaniacs dominance in its own weird way. Will GM Mike ever dig out of this historically bad regular season hole? Check back in another decade.
